This special guided tour will provide insights into the lives of female singers in post-revolutionary Iran, as well as Qashqai women music and culture. Additionally, it will explore the art of carpet making, showcasing how music, rituals, symbols, and ornaments converge within the intricate iconography of the carpets. The curators Yalda Yazdani and Christoph Wieland Blaas will also share their firsthand experiences, offering glimpses into the process of their fieldwork research and documentary filmmaking in Iran.
Meet the curators: Yalda Yazdani, an Iranian ethnomusicologist, filmmaker, and curator completing her PhD studies at the University of Siegen in Germany, has undertaken extensive fieldwork research and produced documentaries on female vocal music in Iran since 2009. Her most recent collaboration was the music project 'Inner Unity Ensemble' (Duisburg Philharmonie, 2023). Christoph Wieland Blaas, an art historian and curator, has recently embarked on a Ph.D. project on the history and theory of photography at Folkwang University of the Arts, Essen. Since 2012, he has collaborated as an independent researcher, producer, and curator with various cultural institutions in Europe, including involvement in intercultural projects.
Note: The guided tour will be conducted in English. However, feel free to ask questions in German if needed.
