Kuratorenführung mit Yohannes Mulat Mekonnen
Der Kurator und Künstler Yohannes Mulat Mekonnen führt durch die Sonderausstellung „WE ARE WHAT WE ARE NOT“.
Die Ausstellung zeigt keine Objekte aus den Beständen des RJM. Stattdessen richtet sie den Blick auf das, was fehlt – und fragt, was diese Abwesenheiten über das Museum, seine Geschichte und seine Machtstrukturen erzählen.
In seinen Mixed-Media-Installationen, Filmen und Fotografien wird theoretische Untersuchung zu sinnlicher Erfahrung. Die rigoroseste Antwort auf Verlust kann dabei auch die unerwartetste sein: zärtlich, heiter und voller neuer Perspektiven.
Die Besucher*innen sind eingeladen, Abwesenheit nicht als Mangel zu lesen, sondern als Anfang.
Die Führung findet in englischer Sprache statt.

WE ARE WHAT WE ARE NOT presents no objects from the RJM’s collection. Instead, curator and artist Yohannes Mulat Mekonnen turns our attention to what is no longer there, asking what these absences reveal about the museum, its history, and its structures of power.
Through mixed-media installations, films, and photographs, theoretical inquiry becomes a sensory experience. Even the most rigorous response to loss can be unexpected—tender, uplifting, and full of new perspectives.
Visitors are invited to read absence not as a lack, but as a beginning.
