YELLOW ROOM

A new third space at the heart of the museum

Right in the middle of our permanent exhibition from 2010, a new third space is taking shape – a space for co-creation, critical questions, collective learning, exchange, and coming together. A third space is a social place beyond home and work – open, participatory, and vibrant.
The Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum is undergoing a transformation. Several sections of the permanent exhibition have already been reworked in collaboration with communities, artists, and initiatives – but this process is ongoing. Our aim is to create a museum that is inclusive, relevant, and alive.
Following „Die Baustelle“ (2019-2021)) and „The Kitchen“ (2023), this new space continues our commitment to rethinking what a museum can be – through talks, workshops, readings, film nights, book presentations, and more. Every 1st and 2nd Thursday of the month we invite you to join us – often in collaboration with Cologne’s diverse communities.

Together with you, we want to shape a more inclusive, accessible, and plural museum.

What stories and perspectives do you want to bring into the museum?
